Less than 10% of people can have perfectly even teeth. The rest have malocclusion of various degrees of difficulty. Some public figures managed to make dentition defects a highlight of their appearance: for example, the crinkle of supermodel Lara Stone or the crooked teeth of actress Kirsten Dunst. But most people with the wrong bite still seek to get rid of it. Fortunately, now this can be done with a 100% guarantee due to the installation of fixed orthodontic structures, or bracket systems. Modern braces have nothing to do with bulky “gratings” on teeth that were worn 10-15 years ago, and even correct advanced forms of dentoalveolar anomalies can be corrected.

Bracket System Classification
The main element of this design is the orthodontic arch. This is a tube made of a dental alloy bent at a certain angle, which, exerting constant pressure on the dentition, gradually levels it. The arc is fixed on the front surfaces of the teeth using braces (front) and rings (rear). Together, these three elements make up the bracket system.
Fixed orthopedic constructions are classified according to several parameters:
- material of manufacture;
- place of fastening;
- A method of connecting braces with an orthodontic arch.
Bracket system – a strictly individual design, which is made in the dental laboratory on the basis of casts of the dentition. Adaptation is required for any braces, but pain in the process of wearing them is excluded.
Types of bracket systems by material
When fixed orthodontic constructions first appeared, their choice was small. Massive metal braces on the teeth, few people liked, but for the sake of the “right” smile had to endure these aesthetic inconveniences. Now the range of materials from which braces are made is much wider. Clinic can supply braces from different materials:

Metal. They are made of the so-called dental alloys – chromium-nickel steel or nitinol (nickel + titanium). The premium version of metal bracket systems is gold, which make 900 dental tests of dental gold. Such designs are considered not only elite, but also 100% biologically neutral – gold, unlike some dental alloys, is absolutely hypoallergenic.
Ceramic
An improved version of plastic bracket systems, inferior to metal in strength. Ceramic orthodontic constructions merge with a shade of enamel, due to which the braces from afar are generally invisible on the teeth.
Sapphire
To date, they are considered the most high-tech option for non-removable corrective systems. Braces are made from artificially grown sapphire crystals, very strong and absolutely transparent. The orthodontic arch, as in ceramic systems, is made of metal. As a result of this, even with close examination, only a thin transverse strip can be distinguished on the teeth, and the braces themselves are practically invisible. Light falling on sapphire crystals is refracted in a special way, giving the smile a “Hollywood” shine.

The material of manufacture is the main factor determining the cost of the bracket system. The most budgetary are metal structures, the most expensive are gold ones.
Lingual and vestibular braces
An orthodontic arch with braces can be fixed both on the outer and inner sides of the dentition. External, they are also vestibular bracket systems that are attached to the front surface of the dentition are more common. They have been used in the treatment of malocclusion for quite some time, but do not lose popularity due to the following advantages:
- a wide selection of materials;
- relatively quick installation;
- ease of care (food debris is easily removed from the structural elements using an irrigator or dental floss).
Unlike vestibular orthodontic structures, lingual braces are fixed to the inside of the dentition. To notice them in the oral cavity, you need to look inward at a certain angle, so in fact these are “invisible” braces. With the help of lingual structures, it is possible to correct advanced abnormalities of the dentition (for example, a deep bite). In the first 2-3 weeks after their installation, patients experience diction disorders and discomfort when chewing, but over time, these inconveniences cease to bother. To care for lingual braces, special devices are needed – an orthodontic cone-shaped brush and a special brush.

Ligature and ligature bracket systems
According to the method of attaching brackets to the arc, ligature and ligatureless (self-ligating) systems are distinguished. Ligatures are special fasteners that hold the bracket on the arc in a fixed position. They have the form of circles or ellipses and are made of different materials: rubber, nickel-chromium alloy, silver. Among teenagers and creative young people, colored ligatures are popular, which look very original. Under the influence of the pressure force created by the orthodontic arch, ligatures from any material are deformed; therefore, during the correction of the bite, they must be changed several times. The fasteners themselves are not felt on the teeth; although in the first days after installation an unusual sensation of pressure arises.
In non-ligature systems, instead of fixed fasteners, special clamps are used that freely slide along the arc. The use of self-ligating systems shortens the correction of occlusal defects by minimizing the friction of the arc on the brackets. The first results can be seen after 2-3 months instead of six months. Ligature-free braces demonstrate an excellent effect in treating crowded teeth, previously considered one of the most complex anomalies. In self-ligating constructions, arcs with a minimum cross section are used, which are almost invisible from a distance on the teeth. Since there are no fasteners in such systems for which food residues could cling, caring for self-ligating braces is greatly simplified.
Despite the fact that information on all types of bracket systems is freely available, it is impossible to select the best option for word of mouth. This can only be done by an orthodontist after a detailed examination of the dentition. You can make an appointment with a specialist at the Clinic.
