What is a Prince2 Certification?
Prince2 course (Projects IN Controlled Environments) is a project and process focused certification program that inculcates project management methods, its principles, themes and technicalities.
Under the canopy of AXELOS, prince2 course delivers a set of integrated and comprehensive course modules that cater to the management of project set-ups.
The prince2 course credential will teach you the essential principles, terminology of project management and on completion of the course you will be able to act as an informed member of a project management team using the prince2 course methodology within a project set-up supporting PRINCE2.
I would suggest certification is both useful and worthwhile, providing one accepts what that means in real terms. Certification in a framework or methodology necessarily makes one any good at project management. Rather, it means that one has successfully grasped that particular framework or methodology.
Prince2 training, for example, is quite explicit about what it does and doesn’t do: it does provide a framework for managing projects, but it does not manage the projects. So, if anything, the project manager exists to fill in the blanks — to act as the mortar between the framework’s bricks, if you will.
So, being certified in a framework or methodology is worthwhile for demonstrating one understands of that particular framework or methodology, which in turn is useful to those employers who need their people to work in specific ways.
But, in isolation, this may not be enough to secure a project management role. In addition to this, employers will be seeking demonstrable project management experience: what projects has a candidate managed, how did they do it, and to what extent were they successful?
